Here is an
interesting article. The beeb are not usually lax about facts and stuff though.
The chapel, according to the article was 70 ft long and 14 ft wide. It wasn't on the Oxford Canal then, was it! However, It was quite a feat to get 150 people on board. At 70 Kg per person that is a 10,500kg payload. With a bit of happy clappy worship and dancing they must have got the boat a-rockin' even for a widebeam!
The BCF are off to see Britain's only current floating Church. It is a converted dutch grain barge in West India Dock, serving Docklands and Canary Wharf etc. More about it next week

It doesn't say it was on the canal, it says it was: "Next to the Oxford Canal on the branch of the Thames called the Castle Mill Stream".
I have just seen this! Independently I found it and put it on my blog the other day. I am uncertain about the number of floating chapels, but I do know the BCF has a floating vicar sort of thing. I wonder if him and his wife are the only ones of their kind?
YES Bones, BCF work in association with Canal Ministries who have currently EIGHT boat with ful time missioners. They are not all what one would think of as a vicar because most of them are continuously cruising. They do tend to have a favourite patch on the system and get a little 'flock' of boaters especially in winter on winter moorings etc.
We only know of one floating church. We are visiting it next Thursday, 28th. Want to come?

I should have left the link, sorry!
What time and where? I had a look at the website but couldn't work it out...
ah haha! I see it is at 1:15. Next week will be awkward but I can quite probably do the 28th... it will depend on how long it takes to get there!
I might like to know a little more about it, it looks like it could be intense...
